The Ramayana is one of the greatest of all spiritual epics ever produced. It is not just a religious text but a story of faith, love, devotion, and spiritual strength that has lessons and value for all people, of all beliefs and backgrounds and all ages. The journey that Lord Ram undertook in search of his wife is at the center of the epic. A trip that retraces Rama’s journey will not only be a great adventure and provide a greater understanding of the Ramayana, but it will enrich the lives of all those who retrace the journey.

Ayodhya
Rama’s birthplace and where the story begins. It is one of the most sacred holy places in India.
Prayag
This is where Rama, Sita and Laxman went when they were exiled from Ayodhya. This is where Rama received the Rishi Bharadwaja’s wisdom and the blessings that gave him the ability to survive the long 14-year exile. Rama returned to the Rishi’s ashram on his way back from Lanka.
Chitrakoot
This was home For Rama, Sita and Laxman for 11 of the 14 years of exile. It was here that Rama met the immortal sage Atri and his wife Anusuya who told Sita of the importance of devotion to one’s husband while blessing her.
Panchavati
This was the forest home of Rama, Sita and Laxman after they left Chitrakoot. It was here that Laxman cut off the nose of the demoness Surpanakha.
Lepakshi
This is where the giant bird Jatayu died after his battle with Ravana. While dying he told Rama to go to Lanka to rescue Sita.
Hampi
Previously known as Kishkindha, this is where Rama met the monkey king Sugriv who aided him in his battle with Ravana.
Rameswaram
On reaching this point in his journey at the southern tip of India, Rama had to build the bridge so his army could reach Lanka.
Ashoka Vatika
This is the location of the Sita Amman Temple where Sita was kept prisoner in Lanka by Ravana.
Talaimannar
This is where Rama killed Ravan and rescued Sita. From here Rama, Sita and Laxman left on their return journey to Ayodhya.
All these places have numerous holy places to visit. Those who do not wish to retrace the complete journey may pick and choose the places they would like to visit.
